Acupuncture & hay fever

This is the time of year when hay fever becomes a problem for many people. At the moment it is tree pollen that affects sufferers. In June and July, it is grass pollen. Later in the year, the pollen from weeds is active.

When it occurs all year round it is called allergic rhinitis and can be caused by pets and dust mites in the home. Diet can also be a factor in allergic rhinitis. Hayfever and rhinitis affect up to 40% of the population. Both hay fever and allergic rhinitis are on the increase.

Traditional acupuncture takes a holistic approach to health and regards both hayfever and rhinitis as a sign that the body is out of balance. The exact pattern of the imbalance is unique to each individual. The acupuncturist’s skill lies in identifying the precise nature of the underlying disharmony and selecting the most effective treatment. The choice of acupuncture points will be specific to each patient’s needs. In the case of hay fever, treatment is often most effective when it is started before the hay fever season starts.

Traditional acupuncture can also be used as a preventive measure to strengthen the constitution and promote general well-being.

I have been practising acupuncture since graduating in 1981 (BA(Hons) BAc CAc(China) MBAcC). I trained in the UK and China, and have extensive experience in treating a wide range of conditions, including hay fever and rhinitis.
